Purchase phosphorus free lawn fertilizer and household detergents to reduce the amount of unnessary nutrients discharged into our watershed.
Nutrients such as phosphorus (and nitrogen) can promote the overgrowth of algae, deplete oxygen in waterways and can kill aquatic life. Irondequoit Bay has higher than normal levels of phosphorus, which can be easily reduced by decreasing or eliminating phosphorous use at home. Make a difference and be phosphate free (Tell your neighbors too)!
